Get to Know the Campus

{Cafeteria}

The cafeteria is located on the southwest side of campus, near the soccer fields. Breakfast is sold before school, and lunch is served during 1st and 2nd lunches.

If you forget to bring your Free-and-Reduced-Lunch Meal Pass, just let one of the kitchen staff know. They can look you up by your ID number.

The Overland Library is located on the 2nd floor and is open before and after school as well as during the school day. Students may visit the library on an off period or with a pass signed by a teacher. Please keep our library nice, and leave your food and drinks outside.

Respect that people from all backgrounds and religions are using these spaces. Electronic devices must be silenced prior to entering the rooms. Be respectful of the quiet atmosphere of the spaces and be cautious of having loud conversations. Practices vary in the use of sound and silence.
•Use the Reflection Rooms for prayers, reflection and meditation only.

•Do not take, displace or destroy any items in the rooms.
•These spaces are to remain advertising free. This includes, but is not limited to, placing or distributing flyers, posters, soliciting, etc.
•These rooms cannot be reserved; they are available as a shared space and intended to be used on a first-come, first-served basis.
•Do not eat, drink, use cell phones, study, or nap in this space; use other spaces on campus to meet those needs. Those using this space for non-meditation/prayer/reflection uses will be asked to move to another space.

Overland has 3 gyms, located at the north end of the building:

West Gym — this is the main gym where pep assemblies and varsity sports take place
East Gym — this is the smaller gym
Upper Gym — this gym is located upstairs between the West and East Gyms and is used for gymnastics and wrestling

During popular sporting events, spectators may have designated entrances/exits and seating areas.

There are several parking lots on the Overland-Prairie campus:

IST & Visitor Lot — located in front of the IST building, with several spots marked for visitors to the campus
South Lot — designated for juniors and seniors with approved parking permits
OHS Staff Lot — located on the west side of OHS for faculty & staff only, students will be ticketed
OHS Auxilliary Lot — parking for Stride Health Clinic
Prairie Upper Lot — located on the east side of campus near Prairie Middle School

Seniors who wish to participate in the graduation ceremony must wear the approved cap & gown and purchase a tassel.

Students can order the cap & gown from Jostens online or when Jostens visits the campus.

The price goes up throughout the year, so it's best to order early.

If you will be borrowing a cap & gown from a former Blazer, please bring the gown to the Activities Office for approval.

{Parent Grad Meetings}

Parent Grad Meetings are for graduating seniors and their parents. Attendance is MANDATORY for seniors who wish to walk in the graduation ceremony. Imporant information will be provided about the topics listed at the right. There will also be an opportunity to purchase items and pay fees.

The information is very valuable, so it essential that you arrive on time. Parents who arrive late will be asked to return for the makeup meeting.

PowerSchool is your online access to your grades and attendance. You should check these regularly to be sure that everything is correct. Your parents have a separate login and can also access this information.

You will need your Active Directory login credentials that you were given at check-in. This is the first part of

Look for the tile called PowerSchool.
Click on any of your grades to see all your assignments.
Click on any of your absence counts to see what days you were marked absent or tardy.

Schoology is the place where your teachers will upload digital handouts, class notes, instructional videos, calendars, and/or quizzes. If you miss a day of class, you can usually find the assignments in Schoology.

You will need your Active Directory login credentials that you were given at check-in. This is the first part of your email address and your student ID number.

Look for the tile called Schoology.
Look for the COURSES menu across the top. Click on it. You will see all the courses you are taking.
Click on any of your courses to view the material.

Naviance provides tools to help you with four-year planning, graduation requirements, résumé building, and college admission. You will use Naviance throughout high school and will add more information to it each year. Your counselors will upload important documents for you, so be sure to log in regularly.

You will need your Naviance login information that you created the first time you created an account. This might be different than first part of your email address and your student ID number.

If you need to create an account, click “I need to register.”

{Honor Roll}

The Honor Roll is posted after each semester and is based on weighted grades for that semester only.

Each semester, eligible students will be selected for the Honor Roll. Students with a weighted GPA of 3.5 and above will be recognized on the Honor Roll. Students have the opportunity to earn this recognition during each semester of their high school career. We will use grades from all schools (CCIC and Elevation included).

Students who attend school regularly and punctually learn more and enjoy a more successful academic experience than those who do not. At Overland, consistent attendance and promptness are an expectation. If a student is unable to attend school for a valid reason, a parent or legal guardian must do the following:

Call the Attendance Office prior to 2:00pm on the day of the absence. When calling, please leave:

Student’s name, spelling the last name
Reason for absence, otherwise student will not be excused
Parent/Guardian Name
Phone number where you can be reached. Please inform us of changes in home or work phone numbers.

Each student will receive one OHS Identification Card (I.D) at the beginning of each school year. Students are only allowed to wear their I.D. for the specific school year. Students are required to display their Overland High School I.D. in clear line of sight when on campus. At school sponsored extracurricular events, students should be able to present their OHS I.D. whenever requested by OHS/CCSD personnel. Overland considers the use of another student’s OHS I.D. card as inappropriate behavior and subject to disciplinary consequences. A student not properly displaying their I.D. card while on campus is in violation of the student identification rule and will receive disciplinary consequences that may include written warnings from their dean, receiving a temporary ID for the remainder fo the school day, detention, or other consequence discussed with their dean.

Broken, lost, or stolen I.D. cards should be replaced immediately at the OHS security office or the deans’ office. Students will receive one free replacement I.D. each school year. The replacement cost for any additional I.D. cards is $2.00.

{Dress Code}

Overland High School expects that all students will dress in a way that is appropriate for the school day or for any school-sponsored event. Clothes must be worn in a way such that genitals, buttocks, breasts, and nipples are fully covered with opaque fabric.

Students must wear a shirt (with fabric that covers the front, the back, and on the sides under the arms); pants (pants/jeans or the equivalent, such as a skirt, sweatpants, leggings, a dress, or shorts); and shoes.

Please refer the dress code in the student handbook, which is located at the back of the student planner.

{Building Entrances}

Before school: students may enter OHS or IST through the main entrance doors, or through the south doors by the student parking lot.

During school: students, staff, community members, and visitors are required to enter Overland High School through the main entrance. All visitors are expected to report to the desk at the main entrance at Overland High School. Visitors will be asked to provide photo identification, state the reason for their visit, log in, and provide a reasonable approximation of the time they will be in the building. Visitors will receive a badge to wear during their stay at Overland.

Other doors are to be used as exits, not entrances, and should not be propped open for any reason.

{Pep Assemblies}

Pep assemblies are held in the West Gym and are a great opportunity to show school spirit, recognize Blazer success, and honor special guest. Please abide by the following to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone:

leave backpacks in your locker or classroom (if you bring a bag to an assembly you will be asked to place it in the bag storage room)
sit in your assigned grade-level seating, leaving no empty seats (there is limited seating in the gym)
- freshmen sit in the bleachers in the upper gym
- sophomores sit in the bleachers on the east side
- juniors sit in the bleachers on the northwest side
- seniors sit in the bleachers on the southwest side
respect others by cheering appropriately, using positive language, listening politely, and applauding after performances

Expect an altered bell schedule on pep assembly days. This will be posted by the Main Office and on the Overland homepage.

Do you want to be an integral part of planning events like Homecoming and Wish Week? Do you want to uncover more about yourself as a leader and learn valuable leadership skills? Do you want to improve your communication skills and participate in important building wide decision making? Are you interested in building school spirit throughout the school and community? Do you want to be a part of a fun community, make friends, and build bonds between committed and hard-working Blazers like yourself?

Think about applying to join Student Council.

{Peer Ambassadors}

{O-Crew}

The O-Crew members serve as role models for freshmen by helping them get oriented with Overland High School at Freshman Orientation and throughout the year.

The O-Crew is seen as leaders in the classroom, in the hallways, at school activities, and in the community. The expectation is that O-Crew members are a positive representation of appropriate conduct in each of these arenas. This includes (but is not limited to) using appropriate language, maintaining good grades and attendance, displaying respect for faculty, staff, your peers, school rules, and the school property.

{Wish Week}

Wish Week is in mid-February. Overland High School, along with the feeder schools in the Overland community, work together with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help grant the wish of a local child with a life-threatening illness.

All school spirit events and activities during Wish Week will raise money for our Make-A-Wish child. The week culminates with a pep assembly and a chance to welcome and recognize the child and his/her family.

{Prom}

Prom is usually the second Saturday in May. The location will be kept under wraps and will be revealed by the junior class in the spring.

Tickets will go on sale during lunches in early May. Students who have paid the Activities Fee will get a discounted price.

Blazers who wish to bring a non-Overand guest must fill out a Dance Guest Pass and submit it by the due date.

Students who purchase Prom tickets will be able to attend After Prom (location TBD). This is sponsored by the OPTCO to provide a fun and safe place for students to continue having fun after the dance.
